Watershed Moment: North Fork WTP Tour

 

Go behind the gates of one of North Carolina's most talked about water systems. The North Fork Water Treatment Plant supplies the majority of drinking water for Asheville and Buncombe County, serving roughly 150,000 people from a 350 acre reservoir tucked into the mountains near Black Mountain.

This tour puts Western GROW members and guests on the ground for a firsthand look at a facility that has earned national recognition for its award winning dam and spillway rehabilitation, and that became a rallying point for the region's recovery after Hurricane Helene. You will see how the team treats and protects the supply, hear the story of the response and rebuild, and connect with the operators and engineers who keep the water flowing.

Know Before You Go: This is an active, secured facility. Closed toe shoes are required and there is walking on uneven ground.
